Barb Wired was originally formed in 2007 to do the popular hits that most other cover bands do not play. "The music scene was getting saturated with the classic rock genre and we wanted to answer the audiences demand for something different, something special and something that will have them wanting more Barb Wired and making Barb Wired a unique premiere band” says lead vocal singer Barb Doran.
After having toured the Indie Circuit for years and returning from a few years absence, Matt Doran noticed many changes in today’s music scene. Audiences and venues are tougher, more demanding, more music savvy and hold bands to a higher level than ever before. They know the songs lyrics, guitar/drum solos and mistakes, gimmicks and heavy use of backtracks are now the destroyer of a bands longevity. “The demands on today’s bands are for more talent, substance, professionalism, interaction, solid performances, cohesiveness and variety. Achieving this requires band members to practice countless hours between the 2 or 3 band rehearsals each week, to fine-tune the old material and to bring in new material to the stage with a solid performance. After all, the venue and audience deserves nothing less!” says Matt Doran.
Barb Wired’s quest to be a unique premiere band began by bringing together an incredibly talented group of performers who enjoy the interaction with people both on and off stage thus engaging the audience to a fun filled and amazing time they want to experience over and over again! It continued by developing a repertoire of 75+ songs and growing, including something for all, from contemporary to the classics with a little country thrown in, while developing original pieces.
Anchored by the riveting and enthusiastic vocals of lead singer/keyboardist Barbara Doran, Barb Wired also consists of a tight powerhouse of extremely talented musicians, vocalists and performers, who not only act as back-up vocals to Barbara, but also take centre stage during shows. With Gerry Strother on Lead Guitar and covering the more rock n roll vocal demands that keep the audience pumped. Matt Doran on Rhythm Guitar and covering the more classic rock and country vocal arena that keeps the audience grooving. Tim Young on Bass and vocals, he is always demanding perfection from every member. Dave Babyn on a combination of electronic and acoustic drums, completing the vocals with a mix across the genre of everything else the audience wants to hear.
Barb Wired now has that unique edge and freshness, venues and audiences crave! So if you are looking for a band that will keep you constantly entertained through high energy, driven enthusiasm, fun times and great performances, then you’ve found it with Barb Wired!
